COCAINE IS NOT JUST COCAINE ANYMORE

Cocaine is a powerful stimulant substance originating from the Erythroxylum coca plant, a bush that is native to South America. Both the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Canadian health authority, classify cocaine as a Schedule II substance under their respective Controlled Substances Act, making it illegal.

Immediately after use, the effects of cocaine range from euphoria, increased arousal and stimulation to intense mental health and physical symptoms, including paranoia and hallucinations, rapid heart rate, tremors, and abnormal body movements.

Chronic use of cocaine may cause more permanent problems with memory and brain function, and can lead to cocaine addiction, otherwise known as cocaine use disorder. Unfortunately, “clean” cocaine is now a thing of the past. With complications of cocaine smuggling and transport becoming more difficult for criminal enterprise, cocaine is not a profitable market for drug dealers, thus prompting them to cut the drug with other chemicals that are far worse than the cocaine itself.

It’s impossible to reliably identify the presence of illicit substances or fillers present in cocaine, neither by appearance, taste, or smell. Therefore, one should plan ahead and assume that risky substances ARE present. Can-Am Interventions would like to bring awareness to this very important health concern, and to provide support in a healthy resolution

Listen below are some examples of chemicals mixed with today’s cocaine:

  • FENTANYL and its analogues (potent illicitly manufactured synthetic opioids) increasingly are found mixed into cocaine to make the substance more powerful and more likely to cause addiction.  Fentanyl is linked to the sharp increase in overdose deaths connected to cocaine.
  • LEVAMISOLE (a strong anti-parasitic medication used in the past) may be mixed into cocaine to add weight to the sample.  Exposure to levamisole can cause severe skin blisters and ulcers as well as serious damage throughout the body.
  • Methamphetamine, a powerful synthetic stimulant that attacks the central nervous system, which has inconsistent strength and properties that have proven to be very dangerous to our mental and physical health.
  • Many other illicit substances and other fillers such as talcum powder or corn starch also are mixed into cocaine to add weight.

These are just some examples of known chemicals that are used to make up most of the cocaine that is distributed today. We are learning of more new chemicals everyday that are being mixed with cocaine that are showing to have very dangerous health effects that are proving to be the most dangerous to the user than ever before.

Help?

Cocaine is a very addictive and strong drug. The purest examples of cocaine have proven to be a very dangerous drug to use, as well as a very difficult drug to quit, with lasting health consequences. With these new chemical additives being incorporated into the drug, it has become a far more dangerous drug than its former original state. The chance of permanent physical and mental damage has increased exponentially. The best chance of full recovery is to immediately stop use and seek professional and medical assistance. Can-Am is here to provide any and all necessary treatments, and to provide council and guidance to ensure the best recovery for you.
