Introduction to Case Management: Case management is a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, care coordination, evaluation, and advocacy for options and services to meet an individual’s health needs.
In behavioral health, case managers act as a bridge between clients and the services they require, promoting stability, access to treatment, and long-term recovery. Core values include client-centered care, advocacy, and a holistic approach.
Course Description:
- This training will introduce participants to facilitating soft intervention approaches, crisis management, and case management services.
- Participants will learn the structure and application of case management.
- They will learn how to create effective case management treatment plans and provide pre- and post-treatment support for families and/or their loved ones.
- The course will cover how to assess individuals and families, offer appropriate resources, and deliver coaching services to support recovery and wellness.
Training Goals:
- The educational goal of this 14- CEUs hour training is to equip participants with a strong foundation in intervention models and the ability to perform soft interventions.
- To develop a deeper understanding of complex issues and its effects on individuals and family systems.
- To build competency in evaluating individuals and families, and delivering clear, actionable plans that leverage community resources and coaching support.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Define case management and its role in behavioral health.
Explain key case management approaches and their applications.
Describe the stages of the case management process.
Apply skills for conducting brief interventions and crisis management.
Complete comprehensive intakes, assessments, and individualized treatment plans.
Address complexities of addiction, co-occurring disorders, and family dynamics.
Build and use a network of community resources for effective referrals.
Support families through planning, communication, and ongoing guidance.

Dr. Suanne Wong is Senior Director of Business Development at EHN Canada. She studied and practiced medicine in the UK for 7 years before returning to Canada, where she has thrived in combining her clinical background with business strategy and leadership.

Katelyn Peterson is Trauma Program Clinical Supervisor at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo. Ms. Peterson grew up on Vancouver Island and has been working with first responders, active military, and veterans in various capacities at Edgewood Treatment Center, for over five years. She is currently one of the Clinical Supervisors for the Concurrent Trauma and Addiction Program (CTAP) as well as the Trauma and Psychological Injury Program (TPIP).
Katelyn completed a Bachelor of Science (Major in Psychology) with the intention of becoming a veterinarian. However, she found that she felt most connected when supporting clients that were experiencing a range of emotions, including grief.
These experiences, in addition to other factors, contributed to her passion for mental health and helping first responders, active military, and veterans. Katelyn later completed a Master of Counselling degree (Presidents Hons.) and is honoured to be a witness to clients sharing their stories, while healing from the effects of traumatic experiences.
Ms. Peterson focuses on creating a safe therapeutic space, teaching coping skills, and applying a range of therapeutic modalities.

Lliam’s clinical work is guided by a trauma-informed, person-centered approach that respects the complexity of everyone’s lived experience. With a deep understanding of addiction and recovery, he believes in fostering self-efficacy by helping clients reconnect with their strengths, values, and capacity for change.
Lliam integrates evidence-based modalities into individualized treatment planning, always with an emphasis on safety, dignity, and collaboration. He views recovery as a dynamic process, rooted in connection, accountability, and the development of tools that support long-term well-being.
Outside of work, Lliam enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and their dog, staying grounded in the same principles of balance and connection that shape his clinical practice.

Dr. Louise Stanger is a preeminent interventionist, family clinician, and thought leader in behavioral health. She serves as Director of Family Programming for Youth Prevention Mentors, Senior Consultant to Grata Health, and clinician interventionist for The Balance (Mallorca, Zurich, London). She is also Senior Faculty for Dr. Judith Landau’s ARISE Methods of Intervention.
Education & Background: Dr. Stanger holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh, an MSW from San Diego State University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of San Diego. She received academic distinction for her groundbreaking work with 9/11 widows and trauma of sudden death.
Research & Grants: As principal investigator on over $5 million in NIH-NIAA grants, Dr. Stanger developed evidence-based parent interventions and peer mentoring programs for college students. Her research has been replicated at universities nationwide and serves as the foundation for current parent-based intervention models. At San Diego State University and University of San Diego, she created the first university-based student mentoring program, “Student to Student,” and developed “Parent Cares,” a collaborative program with private schools to reduce high-risk behaviors in teens.
Recognition & Awards: Dr. Stanger has received numerous prestigious awards including Interventionist of the Year from Harvard McLean Hospital and DB Resources London, the NCADD Mary Mann Award, the Legacy Award 2023 from Inservice Foundation, and the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award for Clinical Excellence from Miriam’s House LA.

Dr. Roberto Sanchez is a trained forensic psychologist and licensed mental health counselor. He is a Nationally Certified Intervention Professional (CIP) and a proud member of the Association of Intervention Specialists. Dr Sanchez has held a master level license in Texas from 1996-2001 and in Florida from 2001 to the present.
With over 33 years of experience in the behavioral healthcare field, Dr. Sanchez provides expert oversight and detailed coordination of care for each case at Axiom Intervention and Case Management Services. He and his team ensure that families and individuals receive ethical, individualized, and comprehensive intervention strategies.
Over his 33-year career, Dr. Sanchez has worked with thousands of families in clinical and intervention roles from all over the world with various complex mental health/substance abuse conditions. Dr. Sanchez’s approach is grounded in empirically supported intervention methods for treating various addiction and mental health disorders. These methods are informed by more than three decades of training and education in the behavioral healthcare field. He has successfully facilitated numerous interventions across the United States.
Throughout his career, he has held leadership/ownership roles including Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Executive Director in various healthcare organizations. In addition to his clinical and administrative work, Dr. Sanchez has served as an expert consultant in forensic settings across multiple states.
His expertise has been utilized in courtroom forums, jury research, mock trials, and by the Department of Corrections. Dr. Sanchez began his academic journey with an Associate’s Degree in Mental Health from Del Mar College in 1989. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas (San Antonio) in 1992, followed by a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University (Corpus Christi) in 1995. He later obtained a non terminal Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Albizu University in 2003 and completed his Doctorate in Clinical and Forensic Psychology from Albizu University in 2008.
His clinical training includes an APA-accredited Pre-Doctoral Internship with Citrus Healthcare Network in Florida (2006) and a Post-Doctoral Internship with the California Department of Corrections (2009).
With more than three decades of diverse leadership experience, Dr. Sanchez has worked in addiction treatment centers, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, residential facilities, community mental health centers, and private practices across South Texas, South Florida, New York, and California.
