Making Amends can often be one of the most difficult Steps

Making amends can often be one of the most difficult steps when one is seeking to live a life in recovery. First one must identify what they have done to cause harm to others and thoroughly apologize. The apology is not always accepted on the first or second try and at times may never be. However, it is important to acknowledge that there was harm done and that the action is regretted.

It is also important to spend some time reflecting on whatever action caused the harm and then correct the behavior. Identifying what internal issues created the original behavior and then putting into action to create change and live a life free from harm.

Apologies mean nothing without changed behavior. Addressing the root of the harm and showing one’s readiness and ability to change can often heal the leftover wounds, even if it seems impossible.
