Facing Recovery from Addiction is Grueling.

Facing recovery from addiction is grueling. Getting started, finding the inner strength and motivation to pursue sobriety is a daunting task. Being honest with oneself is hard and humbling. The first thing you must do is admit to yourself, “I am an Addict.”

Overcoming an addiction is a challenge. Addiction is a disease, and even with recovery it is a lifelong task remaining substance free and abstinent. No matter what, even with years of recovery time, the body still craves the substance.

After one has admitted to their innermost self that they have a problem, it is important to get help. This may include going to treatment, therapy, a meeting or all the above. This may mean going through a period of withdrawal, which can be uncomfortable to say the least. The withdrawal period is a roadblock for many using addicts.

Recovery may call for a change of scenery, new friendships, lifestyle as well as learning to overcome some trauma. Maintaining recovery means changing everything, but it is worth it to kick an addiction that at one point was all consuming.
